SDS Days of Action Against the Iraq War
Submitted by Chapel Hill SDS on Sat, 2008-01-12 01:53ALL OUT FOR MARCH 20, 2008
This March will mark a grim milestone - the fifth anniversary of the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq. Despite the clear mandate from the American people to end the occupation, the U.S. government continues to wage war upon the Iraqi people. Bush’s mocking response to dwindling public support for the war has been the “troop surge,” or simply more of the same, while simultaneously threatening neighboring countries like Iran. For their part, the Democrats refuse to commit to a clear anti-war stance, even as they try to posture as the opposition party. Meanwhile, the threat of domestic recession looms, racist attacks increase, and millions lack decent housing, jobs, education, and health-care.
U.S. Out of Iraq Now! Military Recruiters Off Our Campus and Out of Our Community!
Submitted by Chapel Hill SDS on Sat, 2007-11-10 20:19WHAT: Demonstration Against the War and Military Recruitment
WHEN: November 15, 2007
WHERE: 3:30pm--March from the Pit (on UNC's Campus, near the Student Union)
4:30pm--Rally and Creative Action at Chapel Hill Recruiting Station (1502 E. Franklin St.)
UNC-Chapel Hill Students for a Democratic Society is organizing a demonstration against the continued U.S. war on Iraq and military recruitment on November 15, 2007.
Since the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, more than 1.2 million Iraqi civilians and nearly 4,000 U.S. troops have died. More than $465 billion has already been wasted on this war and the Bush administration has just requested an additional $190 billion to continue the war. Meanwhile, the Democrat-controlled Congress refuses to offer any real challenge to the war and fulfill the mandate to end the war that brought them to power back in November 2006. We are sick and tired of these games. While the people of Iraq continue to suffer under U.S. occupation, people here at home are suffering too. The Gulf Coast still isn't rebuilt, the cost of education continues to rise and become less accessible for millions of this country's young people, and many people don't have access to healthcare. This war has got to stop.

Support the David Price Six! Pack the Court Monday, May 7!
Submitted by Chapel Hill SDS on Sun, 2007-05-06 21:07Dear Anti-War Friends and Allies—
Representative Price has failed to represent the will of the people and lead us out of Iraq. Instead, Price is trying to appease the growing anti-war movement which is sweeping through North Carolina and the rest of the country with empty rhetoric and failed promises of action. On February 16 2007, six students, as part of a larger coordinated national effort, visited Price's Chapel Hill office to share our grave concerns about his supposed commitment to end the Iraq War. David Price's political advisor, Rose Auman, would not allow us to speak to Price by phone. Instead, Auman called the Chapel Hill Police Department to intimidate and silence us. The David Price Six were arrested and charged with first degree trespassing for the 'crime' of exercising our first amendment rights to seek a redress of grievances from our Congressperson. When we invited Congressman Price to come to our trial to testify as to his position about our country's invasion and occupation of Iraq, he wrote to District Attorney James Woodall and asked him to drop the charges against us. Woodall declined.
Cut the War Funding Now - Protest the Trial of the David Price Six!
Submitted by Chapel Hill SDS on Mon, 2007-04-23 23:28Dear friends and allies,
On Friday, February 16, six students were arrested in the Chapel Hill office of Rep. David Price demanding that he vote against more war funding to continue the criminal war on Iraq. On Monday, March 26, the six entered a plea of 'not guilty' in the Orange county courthouse.
On Monday, May 7th at 2 PM, the David Price Six go to trial for their efforts to publicly condemn the Iraq Occupation and Representative Price's complicity in the ongoing violence.
650,000 Iraqi civilians and over 3,200 U.S. service people have been killed in this illegal war. Every day that passes claims the lives of over 100 Iraqis and 3 American soldiers. This bloodshed continues despite the fact that the majority of Iraqis, Americans, and active military personal want the troops out now! David Price and the rest of Congress are not responding to the demands of the people. It is they who should be on trial, not us! We, the youth and students of the 4th district and beyond, are resisting this occupation and those who prolong it with all of our might! Join us on May 7th as we say: Iraq for Iraqis—Troops Out Now!

U.S. Hands Off Iran!
Submitted by Chapel Hill SDS on Tue, 2007-04-10 17:15In 2002, Bush named Iraq , Iran and North Korea as the ‘axis of evil’. Since then, U.S. forces have invaded and occupied Iraq and Afghanistan. The war drums continue to beat against Iran and Syria , and an attack against Iran is now seen as inevitable.
As a strong anti-imperialist state, Iran is a direct obstacle to U.S. control over the region. The U.S. government and corporate media are creating an atmosphere of mass hysteria against Iran’s nuclear energy program. This is seen daily in the media’s portrayal of democratically elected President Ahmedinejad as a “new Hitler” leading a nation of “fanatical Islamists”.
